The two-channel video installation contains a slogan sung against today’s social injuries. In particular, it is a slogan shouted by the victims of migration and war policies in 2015. The slogan was sung as follows. “No human is illegal.” This work makes reference to this slogan. The slogan has been reversed and reproduced in sign language. In this new slogan, “No human is legal.” The video’s editing is based on the incident in which the journalist interfered with refugees trying to cross the border in Hungary in 2015. Referring to this event, he emerged as a symbolic border between the two screens. And the illegal person runs to the second screen. And there he gets his-her freedom by writing the slogan in sign language.
BIOGRAPHY
Hamza Kırbaş / Art Director / Visual Artist. Graduated from Batman University Faculty of Fine Arts Painting Department. He continued his education at Silesia University Faculty of Fine Arts, Graphic Design Department in 2014/2015. He graduated master’s from Hacettepe University Fine Arts Institute. His artworks; especially in Turkey, were exhibited in many international exhibitions, festivals, and biennials in England, New York, Baja California, Colombia, Malta, Hungary, Brazil, Poland, France, Germany, Spain, Finland, China, Ecuador, Greece, and Italy. Also received awards on many international platforms.
